Sonia Carbonell, PsyD specializes in forensic assessment and clinical treatment of Latinos,
and works to eliminate disparity in mental health services to minority groups.
Sonia obtained training as a cultural psychologist at the California School of Professional
Psychology, Alliant International University, in the Culture and Human Behavior Program
(including a Diversity Training and Technology track). Her clinical training is from the
University of Valle, in Colombia, SA and from Antioch University through the Cook Institute
and the Wilson Center.
She has a Masters of Arts in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy and a certificate of specialization
in treatment of adolescents and children. Dr. Carbonell has 22 years of experience working in
hospitals, Human Services and community agencies including Child Protection and In Home
Family Based Programs. She began private practice 1988 in Minnesota as a forensic and
clinical psychologist and as a cross-cultural specialist in workplace diversity training.
Sonia
founded the Cultural Psychology Center (Centro de Psicologia Cultural) in San Diego, CA.
